Listen To The Things You Can’t Hear

I just love the power and strength A.A. Milne puts into Pooh Bear’s words. They are so simplistic, but yet so profound.

God does the same thing. Not all of His words are complicated. When He calls us to action, His words are clear and to the point.

Today is a day which God calls us to rest.

““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

He wants you to take the time to unwind, breathe and to take your burdens and heavy hearts to Him allowing Him to carry them for you. Once you free yourself of your trials and hardships then you will able to sit back and enjoy the silence.

As Pooh Bear says, “Listen to all the things you can’t hear.”

When you allow yourself to “rest” you will be able to hear the silence you couldn’t hear before.

Have you ever gone for a walk or hiking in the woods and just listened to the quietness around you? There is such beauty in this. There are chirping birds through out the trees. Some are faint while others can be louder, but when combined create beautiful music.

Have you ever stood back and listened to the rustling of the leaves in the trees. There is something calming about this sound.

As you continue to walk and listen you can hear the rustling of the little creatures moving about the ground and the trees. There is something majestic about this sound. God created this beauty for us to enjoy, but if we never allow ourselves to “rest” we will never hear the sounds God created for us.

If a nature walk isn’t your place of refuge how about going to a water front. Have you ever just listened to the peacefulness of the waves washing up along the beach, or the flowing of the water down a peaceful river or stream?  There is such majesticness to watching and listening to this.

In addition to the peacefulness of listening and watching the water flow, have you ever taken the time to notice there is a calming smell to it as well? Only when you clear your mind of your heavy burdens does God allow you to use all your senses to truly feel, hear, and smell all of these around you.

Sssssssh, slow down, quiet yourself, clear your mind today and allow yourself to hear the quietness all around.

Lastly, consider one more area in your life to find your ultimate true resting place. It is found in one simple word, forgiveness.

Forgive yourself of what you carry as a heavy burden.

God tells us to remove the sin from our lives and don’t allow it back in  once it has been removed.

After it’s removal, you are forgiven. Don’t pick it back up, leave it in the hands of God because He has wiped your slate clean.

This cleanliness is freeing and allows you a peacefulness, which only God can create, which is required to truly “rest”.

God says it, we believe it, now live it!

“… if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent, then, free of fault, you will lift up your face; you will stand firm and without fear.

You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.

Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning.

You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety.

You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid, and many will court your favor.”

‭‭Job‬ ‭11:14-19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

My friend, it is my prayer that you are able to find your place of peacefulness and forgiveness so you can truly find the peace you need to truly “rest”.

Try it today.

Allow God to work in your life so you can hear, “… the things you can not hear”. Listen with your heart my friend and bask in God’s presence today. When you do He will give you the “rest” you need to carry on in your life.
