Finding God in everyday acts of service and kindness

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9
There are days when the world seems to move so quickly that the small acts of kindness we offer can feel unnoticed. Yet Scripture reminds us that every act of goodness matters, even when we don’t immediately see the results.
As I reflect on my experiences volunteering, I am reminded of the many people who quietly serve others each day. They greet strangers with a smile, offer a helping hand, listen with compassion, and give their time without expecting recognition. Their actions may seem small, but they plant seeds of hope, encouragement, and love.
“Blessed are those who can give without remembering and receive without forgetting.”
— Elizabeth Bibesco
Volunteering has shown me that doing good is not always about accomplishing something extraordinary. More often, it is about faithfully showing up, being present, and treating others with kindness and dignity. In those moments, we become part of a larger story—one that reflects God’s love in practical ways.
The stories we carry from these experiences stay with us. They remind us that even the smallest gesture can brighten someone’s day, ease a burden, or offer comfort during a difficult time.
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
—Aesop
Closing Reflection
As I continue forward, I am reminded to slow down and notice the quiet ways kindness shows up each day. May I never overlook the small opportunities to serve, encourage, or simply be present.
Closing Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the gift of service and for the opportunity to care for others in both big and small ways. Help us not grow weary in doing good, even when the results are not immediately visible. Open our eyes to the needs around us and soften our hearts so we may respond with compassion and grace.
May our lives reflect Your love in the way we speak, serve, and show kindness to others. And may every small act of goodness we offer bring hope and light into someone else’s day.
Amen.
